I feel badly. I mean, not only do I feel "guilty" but I haven't been feeling well.
I got passes to the amazing E3 Expo, which is an Electronic Entertainment and Video Gaming Expo, at the LA Convention center for June 17th. He was STOKED, because he really enjoys playing video games and was really looking forward to trying the new Kinect.
This was supposed to be his "Father's Day" outing. We arranged for childcare for the kids, had the day all planned... I even got the OK to take the day off from work.
And then I felt crappy. Really crappy. So crappy that I knew that if I went to E3 I might start contracting regularly and then not make it to my Baby Shower this weekend. I feel guilty for spoiling the fun for my husband. He was REALLY looking forward to it, and the jealousy amongst his co-workers was really high because THEY ALL WANTED TO GO. But he agreed to stay home, because he didn't want to worry about us having to drive 4 hours round trip and walk around a very, very crowded convention center (on the day of Game 7 nonetheless).
So we stayed home. I still worked part of the day, making sure that some crucial items got taken care of, but we actually spent the entire day together- no children.
We started off the day at the Pool. We had the entire place to ourselves, and it was pure paradise. Of course, my Dear Husband wasn't keen on me "taking care of business" on my Blackberry he pretty much got over it. He laid out, did NOTHING, went in the water and just chilled for once. It was almost like being on vacation at a resort!
After that, we came home to shower and me to do some more work. Then, shortly after I was ready to go we left and went out to lunch together. Do you remember how heavenly it was to go out to eat with your husband before having children and not having to worry about getting home to relieve a babysitter of her duties? Once again... Heaven!
We ran a few errands in peace, and then came home and watched a movie. It was so nice to relax, just have peace and quiet and be able to eat without getting heartburn that I almost didn't want the day to end! I kind of cried when it was time to go and pick up the kids.
The past four years have been tough, I'm not going to lie. They have been wonderful with the addition of our two little boys, but they have certainly not been easy. I can't help but think about how different my life with my husband would be if we didn't have any children. We would probably be well rested and fabulously dressed all of the time, but then again we wouldn't have our children and our lives wouldn't be complete.
With the addition of our third child coming this August, I can't help but think about how different our lives will become once again. It's going to be tough, but at least with number three you are used to the ole rigmarole of having a baby, taking care of a newborn, and dealing with all of the "stages" that child will go through.
But yesterday's "date" made me realize just how much MORE I've come to love my amazing husband these past four years, and how glad I am to have him. Although I could use a few more of these all-day dates (at least more often than every four years), not being able to spend an entire day together like we did in our "single" days made me also realize how much I've missed my husband since Hayden and Trevor were both born. Of course, I wouldn't trade them for anything else in the world... it just made me realize how important it is for us to schedule in more "quality time" together. Makes me think that we should just forget "date night" and save it all for "date days!"
With Father's Day this weekend, the two of us kids "broke" because of our children and the vehicles they require for transportation, childcare, and putting a roof over their heads I can't help but think about how much I appreciate my husband for working hard and taking care of us. And how thankful he is the Father of my children! Now that there is the best part! I never in a million years thought that I would marry my "crush" that I met when I was 16, but here we are... a gazillion years later happily married with our third child on the way in four years.
