Lets face it, we all deserve a break. But lets also face it, sometimes we can't afford the break that we would truly like to enjoy!
When I had the honor of partaking in the Pacific Waters Spa event at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, the spa staff was so wonderful in giving us some GREAT ideas for at-home spa treatments utilizing ingredients that you have in your own home or can pick up at your local grocery store.
These at-home spa treatments are great to treat yourself with whenever you have the time, or to get a group of girlfriends together and have a nice, relaxing evening or cocktails and spa treatments.
Now, the term spa originally referred to a mineral spring, typically attributed with healing qualities. Of course, the modern interpretation of a spa is a facility offering healing and wellness services, products and classes. The latter, of course, doesn't usually fit in to the budget and schedule of the average Modern Mom (whether she be a stay at home OR a working one, might I add), so having tips and tricks to create your own "spa at home" can be just the ticket to your overall well-being and happiness.
Mocha Latte Wrap
2 tablespoons Ground Coffee
1 tablespoon of Cocoa Powder
3 tablespoons of Coconut Butter
Plastic Wrap
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Apply mixture in a light circular motion to arms, legs, hands, or feet. Wrap area lightly in plastic wrap for approximately 10 minutes. Remove plastic wrap and rinse treated area thoroughly in a warm shower.
Berry Pretty Toner
1/2 medium Strawberry
1/2 teaspoon Fresh Rosemary
Distilled Water
Medium Spray Bottle
On a cutting board, dice strawberry. Cut rosemary leaves and place strawberry and rosemary in to a small spray bottle. Fill with distilled water. Shake mixture to blend ingredients. Spray on face for energizing toner.
Sweet Honey Milk Mask
1 cup uncooked Oats
2 tablespoons Honey
1 cup Coconut Milk, warmed
7 drops Rose Oil, optional
Place oats and milk in a medium bowl to soften, approximately 15 minutes. Add honey and the optional Rose Oil. Stir to blend ingredients. Smooth mixture on to face with light strokes. Do not allow mixture to dry. Rinse face with clear, cool water. Leaves sensitive skin feeling smooth and soothed.
Peppy Feet Foot Treatment
3/4 cup Aloe Del
1 cup Organic Sugar Crystals
1/2 teaspoon Crushed Fresh Mint Leaves
4 drops Peppermint Oil, optional
Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl. Apply to feet in a light, circular motion to exfloiate and soften calloused areas. You may wrap feet lightly in plastic wrap and warm towels for 3-4 minutes. Unwrap feet and rinse with cool water.
Inside-Out Scrub
1 cup cornmeal
2 teabags Green Tea
1/2 cup Flax Seed Oil
1/2 teaspoon grated Fresh Ginger Root
3 drops Ginger Oil, optional
Place cornmeal in a medium bowl. Open teabags of Green Tea in to cornmeal. Add fresh ginger and ginger oil in to mixture. Pour flax seed oil in while mixing ingredients. Apply scrub mixture to desired areas using a light, circular motion. Rinse skin thoroughly in a warm shower.
Virtually anyone is capable of providing themselves with a home Spa experience. Remember, you deserve a little "me time" no matter how busy your schedule is, how many children you have, or how many hours a week you work. In order to take care of everyone else in your life, you have to take care of yourself.
